PUMS topic list · half-life
Our sampleA radioactive sample has a half-life of 8 days. What fraction of it is left after 24 days?
Tap an answer to see the explanation.
Show the answerThe answer
The answer is C: 1/8.
- A) Wrong. 24 days is 3 half-lives, but each one halves the amount. It does not divide it by 3.
- B) Wrong. This multiplies 2 by 3. The amount halves three times: 2 × 2 × 2 = 8.
- C) Right. 24 / 8 = 3 half-lives. So 1/2 × 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/8 is left.
- D) Wrong. This divides by the number of days. Half-life counts halvings, not days.
PUMS topic list: nuclear chemistry.

Questions
Before you buy the Live Intensive Course
What does the Live Intensive Course include?
Three things, in one payment: the 8 live sessions (16 hours in all), the recordings, and Gdańsk + PUMS Prep, our practice for the Gdańsk and PUMS written exams.
Does it teach physics?
Yes: the PUMS physics topics. Gdańsk's written exam has no physics. In 16 hours, each part gets its key points and test-style questions. It is not a full textbook course. The PUMS topic list is free on the PUMS guide.
Is the interview covered?
Yes. The course prepares you for both interviews. What the schools publish:
- Gdańsk: Your result comes from the written exam and the interview. The written exam gives up to 60 points, 1 for each question. A written score below 60% usually means no interview, and so rejection. The interview is marked out of 10, and you need 6. You learn your interview mark afterwards.
- PUMS: PUMS looks at your science knowledge and reasoning, mainly about the human body. It also looks at your motivation, people skills and professionalism, volunteering or work in health care, and your English. It publishes no pass mark.
Volunteering and work in health care are your own experience: a course cannot give you that. Our practice does not simulate the interviews.
What if I can't attend live?
Every session is recorded. You keep the recordings until the 2027 season ends, after the last exam date for 2027/28 entry at Gdańsk and PUMS.
