Our sample

Two plants with the genotype AaBb are crossed. The two genes are on different chromosomes. What fraction of the offspring is aabb?

Tap an answer to see the explanation.

Show the answer

The answer is C: 1/16.

  • A) Wrong. This is the chance of aa for one gene only. You need aa and bb together.
  • B) Wrong. This uses 1/2 for bb. The chance of bb from Bb × Bb is 1/4.
  • C) Right. Each gene gives aa, or bb, with a chance of 1/4. Together: 1/4 × 1/4 = 1/16.
  • D) Wrong. This is the share that shows both dominant traits, not aabb.

Your Gdańsk questions, answered

How do I apply to Gdańsk, step by step?

You apply yourself: we are not an agent, and we do not apply for you.

  1. Get your English certificate. Check the list of accepted certificates. Not on it? Plan to take a test, unless the Admission Office tells you in writing that you need none.
  2. Register online and pay the fee to apply. Register by the deadline, even if your exam date is later. Applying through an agency? Its deadline can be earlier.
  3. Pass the grades check. Ask the Admission Office which of your courses count as advanced level, such as A-levels or IB Higher Level, before you apply.
  4. Sit the online exam. Test your device for camera and screen sharing at least one day before, and print the reference sheets.
  5. Interview, then enrol. If your written score qualifies you, the interview follows. See how the exam is scored.

My exam is in 8 days. Is that enough time? Are the questions general or detailed?

It is tight, but you can use the time well. Start with the official topic list and work on your gaps first. Read how the exam is scored and practise finishing every question in time. Try the university's old sample questions, linked in the school's own pages, to see the style.

Is there a cut-off?

Your result comes from the written exam and the interview. The written exam gives up to 60 points, 1 for each question. A written score below 60% usually means no interview, and so rejection. The interview is marked out of 10, and you need 6. You learn your interview mark afterwards. So treat the written exam as the gate to the interview.

What do I need on exam day?

First, the university checks your high school grades, final or expected. If they pass, you sit an online written exam: 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, 30 Biology then 30 Chemistry. One answer is correct, and a wrong answer loses no points. You answer in the university's online system, with your camera on in Zoom and your screen shared. Print the five official reference sheets first, such as the periodic table. A calculator is allowed, with some rules. Results come the same day, about an hour after the exam. If you qualify, a 20-minute interview on Zoom follows. It is recorded. Any outside help means rejection, with no retake. Some devices, especially iPads and iPhones, cannot easily share camera and screen together, so test yours at least one day before. These rules come from the university's 2023 exam manual.

The exam manual (PDF) has the full list of what to check the day before. Our free pack has it as a checklist to tick.

When is the 2027/28 exam, and when do I register?

  • Exam dates: Not published yet. Last year (2026): The Admission Office ran exams on 14 May, 28 May, 24 June, 8 July (for the USA and Canada), and 15, 22, 29 and 30 July. Agencies ran more dates from May to July, some in person, for example in Norway.
  • Registration: Not published yet. Last year (2026): Online registration opened on 18 March. The deadline was 15 July for Medicine, and 31 July for Nursing and Pharmacy. Agency deadlines may be earlier.

Check the entrance exams page before you plan. Gdańsk checks your grades first, then invites you to an exam, so register first.

If I fail, can I retake the exam this year?

Your school diploma must show biology at advanced level, plus chemistry, physics or mathematics at advanced level. The university does not say if you can sit the exam more than once. Do not plan on a second try: treat each sitting as your only one, and ask the Admission Office before you book.

What does it cost?

  • Fee to apply: 100 PLN to register. There is no separate exam fee. If you are accepted, you pay a one-off orientation week fee of 3,100 PLN within 30 days. It is 2,050 PLN for candidates from Poland and for premedical course graduates.
  • Tuition: Medicine in 2026/2027: 32,100 PLN per semester, so 64,200 PLN a year, for years 1 to 6. You pay in two parts: by 15 October (15 November with a loan) and by 15 February. Pharmacy: 20,850 PLN per semester. Nursing: 13,700 PLN per semester.

Living costs and travel are extra.

Do I need IELTS if I have IB English or Norwegian grades?

You need an English certificate at level B2 or higher (on the European scale of language levels), such as IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 80. You may not need one if you have the IB with an English grade at HL or SL. Some Nordic diploma grades also count: 4 or higher in Norway, C or VG in Sweden, 7 or higher in Denmark.

Native speakers and GCSE English are not on that list. So plan to take a test, unless the Admission Office tells you in writing that you need none.

Is it the Medical University of Gdańsk or the University of Gdańsk?

Two different universities. Medicine in English is at the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG). You apply on its admission site, linked in the school's own pages.

Can I work as a doctor in the UK later?

This site covers admission only. Before you apply, ask the UK's medical regulator, the General Medical Council (GMC), what a Polish medical degree means for you. Registering as a doctor and getting a training post are two separate questions: ask about both.

Where do these facts come from?

From the Medical University of Gdańsk's own pages and documents. The link under each fact in the facts on this page shows where, and the date we last checked it. We are independent of the university. If our page and theirs differ, theirs is right.

Chemistry: units, matter, the periodic table, equations, stoichiometry (the amounts in a reaction), concentration, redox, and organic chemistry from alkanes to proteins. You get five reference sheets: the periodic table, electronegativity, solubility, the galvanic series and amino acids. The interview has its own list of 16 topics on the human body, system by system.
