Our sampleA block of volume 0.002 m³ is fully under water. What is the upward (buoyant) force on it? Water: 1000 kg/m³. Use g = 10 m/s².
Tap an answer to see the explanation.
Show the answerThe answer
The answer is C: 20 N.
- A) Wrong. Too small by 100. Check the powers of ten.
- B) Wrong. This is the mass of the water moved, 2 kg. You still need to multiply by g.
- C) Right. The force equals the weight of the water moved: 1000 × 0.002 × 10 = 20 N.
- D) Wrong. Too big by 10. The volume is 0.002 m³, not 0.02 m³.

Your PUMS questions, answered
How do I apply to PUMS, step by step?
You apply yourself: we are not an agent, and we do not apply for you.
- Get your English certificate. Check the accepted certificates. PUMS lists no exception for native speakers, so ask PUMS if you think you are one.
- Apply online and pay the fee to apply. See the deadline.
- Pick an exam session and pay the exam fee. Sessions are in person, in several cities. Pick one you can travel to, and ask PUMS before you pick a late one.
- Sit the written exam. You may use only what the room gives you.
- Interview with professors, on the same topic list as the test. See what they look at.
Is the PUMS exam online or in person? What if I can't get to any of the cities?
One written paper: 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, on biology, chemistry and physics. Each question has one best answer. You sit it in person. In 2026, sessions ran from March to August, in cities such as Poznan, Chicago, Toronto, London, Dubai and Bangkok. You may use only what the room gives you: a calculator, a periodic table and physics formulas. Then you have a 20 to 40-minute interview with university professors.
Check the entrance exam page for this year's sessions. If you cannot travel to any city on it, ask PUMS before you apply.
What is on the exam? I didn't learn half of it in school.
One official topic list covers the written test and the interview, at the level of the end of high school. Biology has 15 topics, from the cell to the kidneys. Chemistry has 16 topics, including nuclear chemistry. Physics has 8 topics, with no electricity or magnetism.
No physics at school? Start with the physics topics, then nuclear chemistry. Tick them all in the topic list on this page.
How many questions are biology, chemistry and physics?
The exam page gives no split by subject. So cover every line of the topic list, physics included.
Is there a pass mark? If I do badly in the written part, do I still have a chance?
PUMS looks at your science knowledge and reasoning, mainly about the human body. It also looks at your motivation, people skills and professionalism, volunteering or work in health care, and your English. It publishes no pass mark.
The interview uses the same topic list as the test. So every topic you learn now helps you twice.
Are the official PUMS practice quizzes worth it?
Yes, do them: they are the university's own. 85 PLN to apply, and 600 PLN for the exam and interview. Access to the official practice quizzes is listed with an 85 PLN processing fee. The university does not say if this is the same as the application fee. The first 150 registered candidates who meet the criteria get free Pearson study materials, with a personal code. PUMS says these do not guarantee admission.
When are the 2027 sessions, and when do I apply?
To start in September 2027, apply by 20 July 2027. Classes start on 6 September 2027. In 2026, exam sessions ran in person around the world, from March to August.
Check the entrance exam page for the session list. Apply early, and ask PUMS before you pick a late session.

Which English certificate do I need?
You need an English certificate, for example: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 94 (or paper 587), TOEIC Listening and Reading 900, PTE Academic 60, Cambridge CAE or CPE, or LanguageCert C1. Your English is also judged at the interview. PUMS lists no exception for native speakers.
Can I work as a doctor in the UK later?
This site covers admission only. Before you apply, ask the UK's medical regulator, the General Medical Council (GMC), what a Polish medical degree means for you. Registering as a doctor and getting a training post are two separate questions: ask about both.
Where do these facts come from?
From PUMS's own pages and documents. The link under each fact in the facts on this page shows where, and the date we last checked it. We are independent of the university. If our page and theirs differ, theirs is right.
