FactGdańskPUMSSilesiaLublinSzczecin
The examFirst, the university checks your high school grades, final or expected. If they pass, you sit an online written exam: 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, 30 Biology then 30 Chemistry. One answer is correct, and a wrong answer loses no points. You answer in the university's online system, with your camera on in Zoom and your screen shared. Print the five official reference sheets first, such as the periodic table. A calculator is allowed, with some rules. Results come the same day, about an hour after the exam. If you qualify, a 20-minute interview on Zoom follows. It is recorded. Any outside help means rejection, with no retake. Some devices, especially iPads and iPhones, cannot easily share camera and screen together, so test yours at least one day before. These rules come from the university's 2023 exam manual. One written paper: 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, on biology, chemistry and physics. Each question has one best answer. You sit it in person. In 2026, sessions ran from March to August, in cities such as Poznan, Chicago, Toronto, London, Dubai and Bangkok. You may use only what the room gives you: a calculator, a periodic table and physics formulas. Then you have a 20 to 40-minute interview with university professors. Most applicants sit no exam here. If your school certificate is from Poland, the EU, an OECD country, EFTA or the EEA, Switzerland, or a country with a mutual-recognition agreement, your leaving-exam grades become points. Medicine counts biology plus one of chemistry, physics or maths, both at extended (higher) level. A-levels: A* = 100, A = 90, B = 80, C = 60, D = 45, E = 20 points. IB: 7 = 100, 6 = 90, 5 = 80, 4 = 70, 3 = 45, 2 = 30, the same for SL and HL. Polish matura: 1% = 1 point. European Baccalaureate: your result times 10. AS-levels have their own basic-level table, and the rules do not say if they count for medicine. Countries not in the tables are converted one by one. You sit the university's exam only if grades in the required subjects are missing, or if your certificate was issued outside the EU, the OECD, EFTA and Switzerland. It covers the same subjects, is marked 0 to 100 per subject, and may be online. US citizens and residents must also send an MCAT score. There are two rounds for 2026/27: 1 April to 30 September 2026 for the October start, and 12 October 2026 to 10 January 2027 for a start in the second semester. After your documents and fee are checked, you sit a short test and an interview, both online and in English. The test: 20 multiple-choice questions in 20 minutes, on words used in the life sciences and maths. You may use only blank paper and a pen. The interview comes straight after, on Zoom, for 5 to 10 minutes. It covers motivation, empathy, teamwork, career goals, and science and maths words. Each is worth up to 100 points. The head of the admissions commission announces the detailed rules. For 2026/27, this was due by 15 December 2025.Only some applicants sit this quiz. You skip it if your school certificate is from the EU, the OECD, EFTA or an agreement country (for example China or Ukraine), or if you hold the IB or EB. The quiz has 20 questions at high school level: 10 Biology and 10 Chemistry. In each subject, 8 are multiple choice with four options, and 2 need a short spoken answer. It lasts 10 minutes in total: 20 seconds per multiple-choice question and 70 seconds per spoken answer. The next question starts when the time runs out. You get a personal link in DreamApply that works for 48 hours. The quiz is recorded, and you cannot pause or restart it. A link you never open counts as a fail.
ScoringYour result comes from the written exam and the interview. The written exam gives up to 60 points, 1 for each question. A written score below 60% usually means no interview, and so rejection. The interview is marked out of 10, and you need 6. You learn your interview mark afterwards.PUMS looks at your science knowledge and reasoning, mainly about the human body. It also looks at your motivation, people skills and professionalism, volunteering or work in health care, and your English. It publishes no pass mark.Medicine needs at least 100 points from the required subjects, with at least 40 in biology. The Rector may lower this minimum if places are left. Places go by ranking, from the total of your points. The health minister sets the number of places for English medicine.Medicine is scored out of 500 points. Biology plus two of chemistry, physics or maths give up to 100 points each, from your grades. The interview gives up to 100, and the test up to 100. You need at least 60% in each part. In a supplementary round, if places are left, you need 50% in each part. A-levels: A* = 100, A = 90, B = 80, C = 70, D = 60, E = 50. AS-levels: A = 80, B = 70, C = 60, D = 50, E = 40. You need full A-levels in at least two of the required subjects. IB, Standard Level and Higher Level: 7 = 100 and 100, 6 = 80 and 85, 5 = 70 and 75, 4 = 50 and 60, 3 = 40 and 50. Some applicants must send an MCAT score of 492 or more, taken in 2023 or later. If your certificate does not let you apply to university, a subject exam replaces your grades (1% = 1 point). Other countries are converted one by one. The Recruitment Commission calculates the final result.A multiple-choice answer gets 1 point if right, 0 if wrong. A spoken answer gets 1, 0.5 or 0 points. The maximum is 20, and you need 10 to pass. You can take the quiz only once.

Who can applyYour school diploma must show biology at advanced level, plus chemistry, physics or mathematics at advanced level. The university does not say if you can sit the exam more than once. Not on the faculty pages we checkedYou need a school certificate that lets you enter university in the country that issued it, and English at level B2 or higher. Register and send your documents at apply.sum.edu.pl, and pay the application fee. The university does not waive the fee. The documents: the personal questionnaire, your leaving certificate (original or notarised), an apostille or legalisation if needed, a recognition statement if needed, your English document, two colour photos signed on the back, and proof of payment. Show your ID. Documents in other languages need a sworn translation into Polish or English. If you qualify, send the originals in person or by post by the deadline, or you lose your place. You also need a medical certificate. The rules set 30 September 2026 for this, so check the date for your round. The fee is refunded only in a few cases, on written request. With a school certificate from the EU, the OECD, EFTA or a country with a Polish agreement, you do not sit the subject entrance exam.No quiz if your school certificate is from the EU, the OECD or EFTA, or from a country with a recognition agreement. IB and EB holders skip it too.
EnglishYou need an English certificate at level B2 or higher (on the European scale of language levels), such as IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 80. You may not need one if you have the IB with an English grade at HL or SL. Some Nordic diploma grades also count: 4 or higher in Norway, C or VG in Sweden, 7 or higher in Denmark. You need an English certificate, for example: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 94 (or paper 587), TOEIC Listening and Reading 900, PTE Academic 60, Cambridge CAE or CPE, or LanguageCert C1. Your English is also judged at the interview. You need English at level B2 or higher. Examples from the official list: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 59, Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE. An IB or EB diploma in English also counts, and so does a degree taught in English. Citizens of the EU, EFTA, Switzerland and the UK with a recognised school certificate have more options. For example: a certificate from a school taught in English, or a Scandinavian certificate obtained in English (Norway 4 or higher, Sweden VG or C, Denmark 7 or higher). You need an English certificate at level B2 or higher, from the Polish ministry's list of July 2025. You need it on every route. You need English at level B2 or higher, from the university's own list. Examples: Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE, IELTS (the list gives 5.5 to 6.5) and TOEFL iBT (72 to 94). An IB or EB diploma counts, and so does an EU school diploma taught fully in English. These do not count: an English grade on any school-leaving certificate (including the German Abitur and Scandinavian certificates), a year abroad, US, UK or Canadian citizenship, course certificates, preparatory courses, or schooling only partly in English.

How to choose

  • Gdańsk or PUMS

Choose one of these if you want a written science exam to decide: both set one. PUMS adds physics, and you sit it in person. See the exam row above.

  • Silesia

Choose it if your school grades are strong: for most applicants, grades become points and there is no exam. See the exam row above.

  • Lublin

Choose it if your grades are strong and you can do a short online test and an interview. See the exam and scoring rows above.

  • Szczecin

Whether you sit its short quiz depends on where your school certificate is from. Check who sits it.

  • More than one?

They are separate universities, each with its own fee to apply.

Questions

Questions about choosing

Which Polish medical school should I pick? I keep hearing completely different opinions.

We do not rank schools. Compare what you can check in the table: whether you sit an exam with your certificate, the score you need, the English you need, the cost and the dates. Each school's page gives the source of every line.

Can I apply to more than one school?

Yes. They are separate universities, so you apply to each one and pay each fee to apply. Check each school's dates, so your exams and deadlines do not clash.

Are other Polish universities covered?

Not yet. Other Polish universities also teach medicine in English, such as in Warsaw and Kraków. This site covers these five.
