Medicine in Poland: Tuition and Fees at Five Schools

In short. For students who started in 2026/27, Medicine in English costs 485,000 PLN over six years at Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS). It costs 32,100 PLN a semester at Gdańsk, 9,120 USD a semester at Lublin and EUR 81,500 over six years at Szczecin. Silesia's tuition is not on the faculty pages we checked. None of the other four has published its fee for 2027/28 starters yet.

This guide covers the 6-year Medicine (MD) programme taught in English, which many searches call MBBS. Each school bills in its own currency. We do not convert, because exchange rates move.

PUMS and Szczecin publish their own six-year totals. For Gdańsk and Lublin, the six-year figure is our arithmetic: the published fee for each semester, times 12. Both schools say the fee applies to years 1 to 6.

The fees move in opposite ways. At PUMS, years 3 to 6 cost more than years 1 and 2. At Szczecin, the last years cost less.

PUMS (Poznan University of Medical Sciences) fees

For students who started in 2026/27:^[1]

Years 1 and 2: 71,000 PLN a year.
Years 3 to 6: 85,750 PLN a year.
The full course: 485,000 PLN.

Year 1 is paid in four parts. First, a 4,800 PLN down payment, which you must pay to enrol. Then 22,066 PLN by 30 September 2026, 22,066 PLN by 15 February 2027 and 22,068 PLN by 15 April 2027.

For 2025/26 starters, the full course cost 442,000 PLN. The 2026/27 total is 9.7% higher (our arithmetic). That is a past rise, not a forecast. PUMS has not published the fee for 2027/28 starters yet.

What it costs to apply: 85 PLN to apply, which you do not get back. It includes the official practice quizzes. Then 600 PLN for the exam and interview, so 685 PLN in total. PUMS says there are no other fees. If you cancel your exam at least 30 days ahead, you get half of the 600 PLN back.^[2]

Gdańsk (Medical University of Gdańsk) fees

For students who started in 2026/27, Medicine in the English Division costs 32,100 PLN a semester, for years 1 to 6. That is 64,200 PLN a year, and 385,200 PLN over six years (our arithmetic).^[3]

You pay twice a year: by 15 October (15 November if you take a loan) and by 15 February.

For 2025/26 starters, the fee was 31,000 PLN a semester. The 2026/27 fee is 3.5% higher (our arithmetic). The fee for 2027/28 starters comes in a new Rector's order, not out yet. In 2026, that order was dated 29 April.

What it costs to apply: 100 PLN to register. There is no separate exam fee. If you are accepted, you pay a one-off orientation week fee of 3,100 PLN within 30 days. It is 2,050 PLN for candidates from Poland and for premedical course graduates.^[4]

Not this figure: 26,900 PLN a semester. That is Gdańsk's fee for part-time Medicine, and for Medicine taught in Polish to foreigners. It is not the English Division fee.

Lublin (Medical University of Lublin) fees

For students admitted from 2026/27, the 6-year MD International Program costs 9,120 USD a semester, for years 1 to 6. That is 18,240 USD a year, and 109,440 USD over six years (our arithmetic).^[5]

Pay by 30 September for the autumn semester and by 28 February for the spring one. You can also ask, by 30 September, to pay each semester in four parts of 2,394 USD. Four parts add up to 9,576 USD: 456 USD more each semester than paying at once (our arithmetic).

Lublin's MD Asian Program is a separate route, with its own fees on the same page. The figures here are for the International Program.

The Rector sets the fee for 2027/28 starters before recruitment opens. Recruitment opens on 22 February 2027.

What it costs to apply: 100 PLN (2026/27). You do not get it back if you withdraw, are not admitted, or miss the test or interview.

Szczecin (Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin) fees

For students who started in 2026/27, Medicine in the English Program costs:^[6]

Years 1 to 3: EUR 14,500 a year.
Years 4 and 5: EUR 14,000 a year.
Year 6: EUR 10,000.
The full course: EUR 81,500.

You pay in two parts, by 1 October and 1 February.

The fees page also lists a second medicine track, the Asklepios Program. It costs EUR 15,000 a year in years 1 to 3, EUR 14,500 in years 4 and 5, and EUR 13,500 in year 6. That is EUR 87,500 in total (our arithmetic). This guide covers the English Program.

What it costs to apply: EUR 85 per application, which you do not get back (2026/27). If you are accepted, you also pay a EUR 600 pre-courses fee. It is not refunded. It is not an exam fee.

Silesia (Medical University of Silesia, Katowice) fees

Silesia's tuition for Medicine in English is not on the faculty pages we checked. Ask the university before you apply. Its admission site is linked from our Silesia guide.

What it costs to apply: 85 PLN, or 100 PLN if you qualify through the university's own entrance exam (2026/27).^[7] The university does not waive the fee. It refunds the fee only on written request, in three cases. The programme does not open, you paid twice, or you withdrew before the recruitment board acted.

Is medicine in Poland free?

Not in English. PUMS, Gdańsk, Lublin and Szczecin all charge tuition for Medicine in English. Silesia's tuition is not on the faculty pages we checked.

Medicine taught in Polish is not free for foreigners at Gdańsk either: it costs 26,900 PLN a semester. At Lublin, Medicine in English is only for applicants who are not Polish citizens.

Check the year and the programme

Many pages quote a figure for the wrong year or the wrong programme. Check these before you budget:

26,900 PLN a semester at Gdańsk is for Polish-language Medicine, not the English Division.
31,000 PLN a semester at Gdańsk was the fee for 2025/26 starters.
442,000 PLN at PUMS was the full course for 2025/26 starters.
EUR 600 at Szczecin is a pre-courses fee for accepted students, not an exam fee.
85 PLN is Lublin's fee for most programmes taught in Polish. Medicine in English costs 100 PLN to apply.

If a figure has no year, ask which starters it is for.
