Gdańsk Admission Points: 130, and Your Grades Converted

How Gdańsk's 130 points add up. Grades: up to 60. Written exam: up to 60. Interview: up to 10. Dashed lines: the score you need to go on. Written exam: about 36, usually needed, since below 60% usually means no interview. Interview: 6 needed to be ranked. Grades: two school subjects, up to 30 points each. Written exam: 60 questions, 1 point each. Interview: 20 minutes on Zoom, marked out of 10. IB or EB? No written exam: your diploma points count again in its place.

In short. The Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) ranks you on up to 130 points. Your school grades give up to 60: up to 30 for each of two subjects. The written exam gives up to 60, and the interview up to 10. With the IB or the EB, you skip the written exam: your diploma points count a second time instead, and you sit only the interview.

The 130 is our sum. The university publishes the three parts, 60, 60 and 10, but no page prints the total. This guide is for Medicine (MD), 6 years, in English, for 2027/28 entry. It is about the Medical University of Gdańsk, not the University of Gdańsk.

The 2027/28 rules keep the 60, 60 and 10, and the 6 of 10 at the interview.[1] In shares of the total (our arithmetic): grades 46%, the written exam 46%, the interview 8%.

So your grades weigh as much as the exam. But they cannot carry you past it. You need about 60% on the written exam to reach the interview, and 6 of 10 at the interview to be ranked.

Step 1: the grades check

Before the exam, Gdańsk looks at your school grades, final or expected. If you pass this first stage, your status becomes "under evaluation", and you are invited to the online exam.[2] The pages we checked give no grade line for this stage. So register well before the exam date you want: see when Gdańsk registration opens.

Your diploma must show biology at advanced level, plus chemistry, physics or maths at advanced level. Gdańsk scores two subjects, at up to 30 points each. If you have more than two of these subjects, ask the Admission Office which two it scores.

A-levels: your grades as points

Gdańsk's A-level page gives these points for each subject:[3]

A-level gradePoints
A*30
A27
B24
C21
D18
E15

Two subjects, added up (our arithmetic):

Your two gradesGrade points, of 60
A* and A*60
A* and A57
A and A54
A and B51
B and B48
C and C42

Each grade step is worth 3 points. On the written exam, each right answer is worth 1 point. So one grade higher in one subject is worth the same as 3 more right answers.

The A-level page links the 2026 admission site, so it is the 2026 table. Check it again when the 2027 site opens.

The written exam and the interview, in points

The written exam has 60 questions: 30 biology, then 30 chemistry. Each right answer gets 1 point. A wrong answer loses nothing, so answer every question. A score below about 60%, which is about 36 of 60, usually means no interview, and so rejection. You get the result the same day.[2]

The interview lasts 20 minutes on Zoom, and it is recorded. It is marked out of 10. You need at least 6 to be placed on the ranking list. You learn your mark after the interview. It checks your English, your motivation and whether you suit medicine, and it covers 16 official topics on the human body. See them in the Gdańsk exam guide.

Your total is simple to work out (our arithmetic):

  • Grade points: your two subjects, from the tables above.
  • Plus written-exam points: 1 for each right answer.
  • Plus your interview mark: up to 10.

IB and EB: the interview-only route

With the IB or the EB, you do not sit the written exam. You need biology at advanced level (Higher Level in the IB), plus chemistry, physics or maths at that level. Then you sit only the interview, in English.[4]

Your diploma points are then entered a second time, in place of each written-exam subject. IB Higher Level points:

IB Higher Level gradePoints
730
625.7
521.4
417.1
312.9
28.6

Standard Level counts only for Nursing, not for Medicine.

A worked example (our arithmetic). Biology HL 7 and Chemistry HL 6 give 30 + 25.7 = 55.7 grade points. They count again in place of the written exam: 55.7 more. That makes 111.4 points before the interview, which adds up to 10.

So with the IB or EB, your grades decide up to 120 of the 130 points (our arithmetic). Each grade step is worth about 4.3 points. In biology, it counts twice: about 8.6 points, almost a whole interview.

The same university page also covers the EB. We have not added an EB table yet.

Other countries: Norway, Sweden, the USA and more

Gdańsk has one page per country for converting grades, all listed on its score calculation index. We have not checked those pages yet, so we do not print their tables here. Use the page for the country that issued your certificate.

Predicted grades

Still at school? Gdańsk uses your expected grades to work out points for each subject, so you can sit the written exam. It works out your final score when your authenticated final documents arrive. Only then does it make the final admission decision.[5]

If you qualify for the interview with predicted grades, you may get a conditional place, with the interview held later.

What total do you need?

Gdańsk ranks candidates by total points, highest first, until its places are filled. So the total you need depends on the year and on who else applies.

What you can control is clear from the numbers. The written exam is worth as much as your grades, and a wrong answer costs nothing. Every question you answer is a chance at 1 more point.
